Meet Nigel

Nigel Dalton is a dedicated community advocate and former Queensland Police Sergeant with a passion for public safety and education.

Before entering politics, Nigel served in the Queensland Police Service for 22 years, retiring in early 2024. As the Sergeant in Charge of Mackay’s Crime Prevention Unit from 2006 until his retirement, he led numerous initiatives focused on educating children and the wider community on topics such as road safety, digital addiction, drug awareness, and domestic violence prevention.

His efforts earned him several awards, including the Police Commissioner’s Award from Neighbourhood Watch Australasia in 2022 and a Queensland Police Service bronze award in 2018 for his contributions to community policing.

With over two decades of service in law enforcement, he passionately champions initiatives that protect and empower families, ensuring that the community thrives through collaboration and support for frontline workers. Nigel believes in practical solutions that foster safety and wellbeing for all.

Nigel’s commitment to his community extends beyond law enforcement. In 2023, he was named Citizen of the Year at the Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Awards in recognition of his dedication to improving safety and wellbeing in the region. He has been actively involved in various community groups, including seniors, men’s, church, and sporting organisations. A keen swimmer, he competes in national masters events with the North Mackay Sinkers Masters Swimming Club and has served on committees supporting safety, health, and youth referral programs.

Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Nigel has lived in Mackay for over two decades with his wife, Sue, and their children, Angus and Alice. His diverse background includes qualifications in electronics, public safety (policing), volunteer program coordination, and crime prevention through environmental design.

Now serving as the State Member for Mackay, Nigel remains committed to advocating for public safety, supporting families, and ensuring that frontline workers in crime prevention, emergency services, health, and housing receive the support they need. His focus is on delivering practical solutions that make a real difference to the people of Mackay.

    Les-Lee is a proud local of the Mackay Region, having grown up on a cattle property and attended small schools in the Sarina area. Her deep connection to the community gives her a strong understanding of the diverse needs of the region.

    An experienced finance and administration professional, Les-Lee has a solid background in financial management, human resources, and government operations. With over 20 years of experience across government agencies and private organisation, she has built a career defined by dedication, precision, and a commitment to excellence. Her ability to provide high-level administrative support makes her an invaluable asset to the Mackay Electorate Office.

    Beyond her professional expertise, Les-Lee is actively involved in community sports administration. She serves as the RISE Program Manager for Rugby League Mackay District and the Mackay Cutters Development/Pathways Program and previously held the role of Treasurer for the Mackay & District Rugby League Referees Association. Her leadership in these roles reflects her strong organisational skills and passion for community engagement.

    Lauren Wilson

    Assistant Electorate Officer

    Lauren is a media professional with a strong background in journalism, broadcasting, and communications. Originally from Northern Ireland, she holds a Master’s in Journalism and has worked as a journalist and newsreader for TripleM and Hit. Her career has taken her across multiple industries, including media, tourism, retail, and hospitality, giving her a well-rounded skill set in public engagement and storytelling.

    Before settling in Mackay, Lauren spent over four years traveling Australia, gaining extensive knowledge of the country. She also studied broadcast journalism at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, further expanding her expertise in media production and communication.

    In her current role, Lauren manages media and communications for MP Nigel Dalton, overseeing social media, video production, and the coordination of press events. She is also responsible for administrative support and constituent engagement.

    Zeke is a proud North Mackay local with a deep commitment to serving his community. With a background spanning retail, finance, leadership, and now public service, Zeke brings a wealth of experience and a strong passion for helping others.

    Zeke works closely with constituents to address concerns, provide assistance, and support the delivery of positive outcomes for the local community. Whether he’s helping residents navigate government services, advocating for community initiatives, or simply having a conversation about ways to improve Mackay, Zeke is dedicated to making a meaningful difference.

    Zeke is currently studying a Bachelor of Business and Justice at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). His studies provide him with valuable insights into economic frameworks, public policy, and governance — knowledge he applies to his work in supporting the people of Mackay.

    An active member of the community, Zeke is a past President of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Mackay, where he played a key role in organizing local projects and supporting charitable initiatives. He is also actively involved with Mackay Christian Family Church, where he continues to contribute his time to helping others.

    With a strong belief in community, service, and positive change, Zeke is committed to working alongside locals to build a better Mackay for all.
